Pramoedya Ananta Toer tiene más de treinta obras de ficción traducidas a casi cuarenta idiomas. Integrado en los movimientos nacionalistas indonesios, su vida estuvo marcada por el cautiverio y la prohibición de sus libros por cuestiones ideológicas. Murió en 2006 rodeado de su familia.
