Fabian: The Story of a Moralist (German: Fabian. Die Geschichte eines Moralisten) is a 1931 novel by German author Erich Kästner.
The novel tells the story of Jacob Fabian, 32, and with a weak heart, a college graduate from a poor family unhappily employed at an advertising agency promoting the sale of cigarettes. He is a loner, single, and lives in a cheap rooming house.
