Floyd Collins is a musical with music and lyrics by Adam Guettel, and book by Tina Landau. The story is based on the death of Floyd Collins near Cave City, Kentucky in the winter of 1925. The musical opened Off-Broadway on February 9, 1996, where it ran for 25 performances.

His major influences include Igor Stravinsky, Maurice Ravel, Claude Debussy, Benjamin Britten, and Stevie Wonder.
When they finally reach him after seventeen days, he has already died of exposure and starvation. Influenced by Bluegrass and Americana, Adam Guettel’s stunning score beautifully illuminates this story of spirituality, hope and one man’s quest for glory.

His musical Floyd Collins, with a book by Tina Landau won the Lucille Lortel for best musical, and the Obie Award for best music. His musical, Saturn Returns (recorded as Myths and Hymns) was produced at the Public Theater in 1998. He has several shows in the works, including Millions, directed by Bartlett Sher, with a book by Bob Martin.
