A first-round draft pick by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1968, Valentine was one of the most heralded prospects in the august organization's history. He played for Tommy Lasorda with the Ogden Dodgers and Spokane Indians in the Dodgers' system and for Walter Alston in the majors.
