Hannibal Hamlin (August 27, 1809 – July 4, 1891) was an American attorney and politician who served as the 15th vice president of the United States from 1861 to 1865, during President Abraham Lincoln's first term. He was the first Republican vice president.

Hamlin was the son of Cyrus Hamlin, a physician, sheriff, and farmer, and Anna Livermore. After practicing law, he entered politics as an antislavery Jacksonian.

President Johnson appointed Hamlin collector of the port of Boston but Hamlin later resigned in protest over Johnson’s policies. He was again elected to the U.S. Senate in 1869 and served until he chose not to run for reelection in 1880.
In 1861, after counting the electoral votes, President of the Senate John C. Breckinridge (Vice President under James Buchanan) announced the two winners of the 1860 election: Abraham Lincoln and Hannibal Hamlin. This is the paper he issued certifying Hamlin as the VP winner.
