Situated in the valley of Achor near the Yarqon River, the city takes its name (meaning “Door of Hope”) from the biblical allusion in Hosea 2:15: “ . . . and make the valley of Achor a door of hope.”
The name of this city, located east of Tel Aviv means “Gateway to Hope.”. Religious Jews from Jerusalem established Petah Tikva on November 3, 1878. Three entrepreneurial families initially established the settlement, one of which was Rabbi Moshe Yoel Salomon’s family, from Jerusalem. Additional families joined them in 1880.
