29 de mar. de 2024 · Kid Ory (born Dec. 25, 1886, Laplace, La., U.S.—died Jan. 23, 1973, Honolulu, Hawaii) was an American trombonist and composer who was perhaps the first musician to codify, purely by precept, the role of the trombone in classic three-part contrapuntal jazz improvisation.
Ory's Woodland Band gained an enviable reputation for playing music that appealed to dancers, with careful dynamics that made the band a pleasure to hear. Ory looked youthful, dressed well, and was personable on the bandstand. He became known as Kid Ory, but musicians nicknamed him 'Dut,' Creole for dude.

Kid Ory, then, was a trombonist, composer, recording artist, and early New Orleans jazz band leader. Creole Trombone: Kid Ory And The Early Years Of Jazz tells his story from birth on a rural sugar cane plantation in a French-speaking, ethnically mixed family, to his emergence in New Orleans as the city’s hottest band leader.
