The sand tiger shark (C. taurus) is a reef-dwelling fish that occurs in coastal marine environments in all tropical and temperate oceans except the eastern Pacific. It is the smallest of the three sand shark species, commonly measuring about 2.2 to 2.3 metres (7.2 to 7.5 feet) in length.

Sand sharks, also known as sand tiger sharks, gray nurse sharks or ragged tooth sharks, are mackerel sharks of the family Odontaspididae. They are found worldwide in temperate and tropical waters. The three species are in two genera.
Sand tiger sharks roam the epipelagic and mesopelagic regions of the ocean, sandy coastal waters, estuaries, shallow bays, and rocky or tropical reefs, at depths of up to 190 m (623 ft). The sand tiger shark can be found in the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans, and in the Adriatic Seas.
