Following the critical acclaim of "California Bloodlines" (but commercial failure) John was teamed up with producer Peter Asher by his then manager David Geffen. The result was an album that in hindsight is untypical of Johns work.

Featured as a 'lost classic' in Uncut magazine a while back, this was the first that i'd heard of 'California Bloodlines' by John Stewart, who it turns out had made his name as songwriter, notably for 'Daydream Believer', recorded by The Monkees.
Produced by Peter Asher in Los Angeles, its credits include appearances by some of the same Nashville session players plus Doug Kershaw, Russ Kunkel, Carole King, James Taylor, and Danny Kortchmar. While the set drew consistently positive reviews, it failed commercially.
