Giorgio Strehler (1921-1997) was an Italian stage director, theatre practitioner, actor and politician. He co-founded the Piccolo Teatro of Milan and the Union of the Theatres of Europe, and directed plays by Goldoni, Brecht, Shakespeare and others.

In addition to pursuing his artistic career, in 1984 Giorgio Strehler represented the Italian Socialist Party at the European Parliament and was an independent left-wing senator in 1987. He died in 1997, from a heart attack when he was about to direct Così fan tutte in Milan.
