Antônio Carlos Jobim was born in the middle-class district of Tijuca in Rio de Janeiro. His father, Jorge de Oliveira Jobim ( São Gabriel , Rio Grande do Sul; 1889–1935), was a writer, diplomat, professor and journalist.
A representative of Chesky Records happened to be in the audience and made Caram an offer to record her first album, Rio After Dark, which was released in 1989. Since then, she has made eight albums for Chesky Records, including 1992’s The Other Side of Jobim, which is a tribute to her mentor.
