The Games of the XXIV Olympiad took place between 17 September and 2 October 1988. In all, 8,397 athletes (2,194 women and 6,203 men)4 from 159 different countries or National Olympic Committees (NOCs) competed in 23 sports and 237 events at the 1988 Olympic Summer Games in Seoul5.

Se develó al mediodía del 27 de agosto de 1988, cuando la antorcha llegó al parque. El pebetero olímpico medía 5,5m de diámetro y estaba situado sobre un esbelto pilar octaédrico de 22m.
