Borax and bicarb at Tesco. I went to pick up some Ecover at Tescos last night, and while I was standing there pondering how cheeky they are to market their own brand "not particularly eco but hey, wave a leaf at it, paint the lid green and put it next to ecover" cleaning products, I noticed they now sell 500g boxes of borax and bicarb.

In laundry you use it as a soap additive and reduce the amount of soap powder. I find it really difficult to buy in the UK so my sister usually brings a couple of boxes of "20 mule team borax" (yes that really is what the brand is called) over when she visits from the states cos it is widely used and available over there.
