Bedales School is a public school (co-educational private school, boarding and day) in the village of Steep, near the market town of Petersfield in Hampshire, England. It was founded in 1893 by Amy Badley and John Haden Badley in reaction to the limitations of conventional Victorian schools and has been co-educational since 1898.
All boarders at Bedales Senior are full boarders, although they may go home on Saturday night if free from school commitments. Activities are provided for boarders at the weekend, both at school and off-site.
A co-educational boarding and day school located in 120 acres of South Downs National Park in the south of England in Hampshire, Bedales is inspiring a new generation of critical thinkers, creators and leaders by cultivating a community of lifelong learners through its innovative, intellectually challenging curriculum.
Bedales School. Bedales has been the liberal alternative since 1893 (co-ed since 1898). Age 3 to 18; 70% of seniors board. We are disciplined but not rule-bound (no uniform!); relaxed but respectful (everyone uses first names). Creative arts and outdoor work are strong.
Whilst Bedales has day pupils, they are treated identically to boarders, and Bedales recognises itself to that end as fundamentally a Boarding School. 10% of pupils come from overseas. Entry is at 13 or 16.
