Eton College (/ ˈ iː t ən / ⓘ) is a public school (fee-charging and boarding for secondary school age boys) in Eton, Berkshire, England. It was founded in 1440 by Henry VI under the name Kynge's College of Our Ladye of Eton besyde Windesore , [4] [5] making it the 18th-oldest school in the Headmasters' and Headmistresses' Conference (HMC).

Although it seems near-unchanged since Victorian times, there have in fact been a number of changes: the top hats, variations in uniform by height, and Pop (prefect) wax hat stamps have all disappeared, each as a result of a social change.
Seniority within the School is denoted by wearing “stick ups”, a winged collar with bow tie, with other boys wearing the “Eton collar”. However, this has only been the officially regulated uniform since the arrival of a new Head Master in 1964. In the 18th century, the dress worn by boys was a colourful affair.
The Eton uniform is apparently the only public school uniform that went on to become widely worn by boys--many of whom may never had heard of Eton College. The Eton suit and collar was widely worn by boys in the late 19th and early 20th Century.
The full Eton suit consisted of a top hat, short jacket, waistcoat, tie, Eton collar, land long trousers. The colors and patterns varied from school to school. Eton for example had striped trousers while other schools had solid colored trousers.
