'Adjust' seems to me to mean to make something in such a way so that it suit, fit or match. I agree that adjust means modifying something to get it to suit, fit or match. You can also adjust to a situation in order to fit in.

It seems to me match doesn't really go with "with" when used intransitively (the jacket doesn't match (with) the jeans), though it does when used transitively (you need to match the jacket to the jeans); that's not an issue with "match up".
