Aarnoud Jan Anne Aleid, Baron van Heemstra (22 July 1871 – 30 December 1957) was a Dutch nobleman, jurist and politician. He served as mayor of Arnhem between 1910 and 1920, and Governor-General of Suriname from 1921 until 1928. Van Heemstra was the grandfather of Audrey Hepburn.

Van Heemstra werd geboren als zoon van mr. Willem Hendrik Johan baron van Heemstra (1841-1909), burgemeester van Vreeland, en Wilhelmina Cornelia de Beaufort (1843-1927).

Baron Aarnoud Jan Anne Aleid van Heemstra was born in 1871 into an aristocratic family of Frisian origin in the Netherlands. His great uncle, Schelto van Heemstra, had been Prime Minister of the Netherlands in the early 1860s.
12 de nov. de 2013 · Aarnoud van Heemstra stamde uit een oud - in oorsprong Fries - adellijk geslacht en groeide samen met zijn oudere broer op als zoon van een plattelandsburgemeester: eerst tot 1875 in Vreeland, daarna in Driebergen. Hij bezocht het gymnasium in Utrecht en studeerde vanaf 1890 rechten aan de Rijksuniversiteit in die stad.
Audrey’s grandfather Baron Aarnoud van Heemstra, who served as Mayor of Arnhem from 1910 to 1920, lived at the beautiful ‘Huis Zypendaal’. When the family moved to Arnhem in September of 1937, this is where they first stayed. The next home was less of an eye catcher.
