  6. Nearly fifty years ago, in 1971, a small 11-16 secondary modern school in Alsager, South Cheshire, was transformed into a rapidly expanding 11-18 comprehensive school. For the first time, young people of all abilities, from Alsager and the surrounding villages, were educated in their local town.
