Casey Hayden was born Sandra Cason, fourth generation in her little Texas town, where she was raised by her grandmother and her single parent working mom. Attending the University of Texas in Austin as an undergraduate, she was a national leader in one wing of the Student Christian Movement, and was selected for Mortarboard, the national senior women's honorary society of the day.
