Chilocco Indian School was an agricultural school for Native Americans on reserved land in north-central Oklahoma from 1884 to 1980. It was approximately 20 miles north of Ponca City, Oklahoma and seven miles north of Newkirk, Oklahoma, near the Kansas border.
Chilocco Indian Agricultural School was a federal boarding school designed to transform and culturally assimilate American Indians. It was located in Kay County just south of the Oklahoma–Kansas state line. Thousands of American Indian students attended and resided at the school from 1884 to 1980.
15 de ene. de 2010 · In January 1884 Chilocco opened its doors to 150 children from the Cheyenne, Arapaho, Wichita, Comanche, and Pawnee tribes. By 1895 enrollment had increased to 352, and by 1906 students hailed from a wide variety of tribes across Oklahoma and the West.
