David William Blight (born 1949) is the Sterling Professor of History, of African American Studies, and of American Studies and Director of the Gilder Lehrman Center for the Study of Slavery, Resistance, and Abolition at Yale University. Previously, Blight was a professor of History at Amherst College, where he taught for 13 years.
David Blight is a leading scholar of Civil War and Reconstruction era, African American history, and American cultural and intellectual history. He is the author of many books, including Frederick Douglass's biography, Race and Reunion, and American Oracle, and the editor of several collections of slave narratives and letters. He teaches and writes on public history, historical memory, and the Civil War era.
