Dina Dreyfus (French:), also known as Dina Levi-Strauss (French: [levi stʁos]; 1 February 1911, in Milan – 25 February 1999, in Paris), was a French ethnologist, anthropologist, sociologist, and philosopher, who conducted cultural research in South America.
Between November 1935 and March 1936, Dina Dreyfus Lévi-Strauss accompanied her husband on an expedition to contact the Kaduveo and the Bororo, both indigenous societies located in Mato Grosso, Central Brazil.

It was in Brazil that Lévi-Strauss undertook the change in his career, moving from his original background in philosophy towards anthropology. Moreover, Mário de Andrade, another famous Brazilian avant-garde writer, worked closely with Dina Lévi-Strauss, Claude’s wife at the time. [4]
Claude and Dina Lévi-Strauss carried out two expeditions in the heart of Brazil, one of which led them to the Kadiueu and Bororo Indians, which lasted from November 1935 to January 1936 and the other to the Nambikwara and Tupi-Kawahib, from May-June 1938 to January 1939.
Based on published and archival materials held by Brazilian and French institutions, this paper brings to light Dina Lévi-Strauss' contribution to Claude Lévi-Strauss' visual archive of Brazil. It explores questions of authorship, self-image and intimacy in the making of anthropological knowledge.
The exhibits collected at the time were presented in the Musée de l’Homme in 1937 as the results of the “mission of Claude and Dina Lévi-Strauss”.7 The second expedition, this time to the west of Mato Grosso, was made up of four people: Claude and Dina along with the anthropologist Luís de Castro Faria and the doctor Jehan Vollard (Wilcken 2011: 81).
