Dudley Moore begann seine Karriere als Komiker sowie Autor und Darsteller in britischen Revuen. Während seines Studiums der Musik in Oxford (Orgel, Klavier, Komposition) traf er Alan Bennett, Peter Cook und Jonathan Miller, die zu Beginn der 1960er die Comedy-Gruppe Beyond the Fringe, eine Art Vorgänger von Monty Python’s Flying Circus formten.

Dudley Moore, one of Britain's best-loved comedians, actors and musicians, has died aged 66. He died at his home in New Jersey, his spokeswoman Michelle Bega said from Los Angeles. "Moore was surrounded by friends, his nurse and medical aides at the time of his passing," she added.

Moore first came to prominence in the UK as a leading figure in the British satire boom of the 1960s. He was one of the four writer-performers in the comedy revue Beyond the Fringe from 1960 that created a boom in satiric comedy.
