Edward Douglass White (March 3, 1795 – April 18, 1847) was tenth Governor of Louisiana and a member of the United States House of Representatives. He served five non-consecutive terms in Congress, as an adherent of Henry Clay of Kentucky and the Whig Party .
His father, Edward Douglass White Sr., was the 10th Governor of Louisiana and a Whig US Representative. White fought for the Confederacy during the Civil War and was captured in 1865. After the war, White won election to the Louisiana State Senate and served on the Louisiana Supreme Court.

Edward Douglass White, Sr. was born in Maury County, Tennessee, on March 3, 1795 to James White, an attorney and judge, and Mary Wilcox White. The family moved to Louisiana in 1799, settling in St. Martin Parish, where James White became a district judge after the Louisiana Purchase (1803).
White was the first Associate Justice to be appointed Chief Justice. White served on the Court for a total of twenty-seven years, ten of them as Chief Justice. He died on May 19, 1921, at the age of seventy-five.
