Eoin O'Duffy was a soldier, policeman, and politician who led the first IRA raid on an Ulster RIC barracks in 1920 and became commander of the National Army in 1922. He was also a member of the IRB supreme council and a leader of the Free State police force. He supported the Anglo–Irish truce and the Treaty of 1921, but clashed with Fianna Fáil and republicans over his role in the civil war and the Free State government.
