Flinders Street is a main street in the city centre of Adelaide, South Australia. It runs from the northern end of Victoria Square to East Terrace. It is one of the intermediate-width streets of the Adelaide grid, at 1 + 1 ⁄ 2 chains (99 ft; 30 m) wide.
Flinders Street was one of the 63 streets in Colonel William Light’s Plan of Adelaide. It acknowledges Captain Matthew Flinders who conducted the first detailed survey of the South Australian coast.

The Flinders Street School opened in October 1878 as the City Model School, with an average daily attendance of 593 children. Fees to the attend the school were based on a means test. The building was the first two storey public school in the colony.
