Florence Lawrence was one of the first motion picture stars, known as "The Biograph Girl," who appeared in almost 300 films and led a US film studio. She was also an inventor who created the turn signal and the brake signal for automobiles, but did not patent her work.
Florence Lawrence was a pioneer of film acting, the first to be promoted by name and studio. She worked for IMP, Lubin and Victor, and died by suicide in 1938.
