Geneva Medical College was founded on September 15, 1834, in Geneva, New York, as a separate department (college) of Geneva College, currently known as Hobart and William Smith Colleges. In 1871, the medical school was transferred to Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York .

Geneva Medical College was founded in 1834 by Dr. Edward Cutbush, a Professor of Chemistry at Geneva College, which is now named Hobart College. Among the graduates of Geneva Medical College is Elizabeth Blackwell, MD, who was the first woman physician in the world to graduate from an accredited college of medicine.
The first proposal to establish a medical department at Geneva College under Dr. Thomas Spencer and Dr. John Morgan, 1834. The Geneva branch of the Rutgers Medical Faculty of Geneva College was deeply dependent on Dr. Hosack. When the courts forcibly cut ties between the two, the branch in Geneva was forced to close as well, despite its legality.
