The First Aeronautical Engineer. Sir George Cayley (1773-1857) built the world’s first hand-launched glider in 1804. It was five feet long and was the first example of the configuration of a modern aircraft, with separate systems for lift and control. Cayley deserves to be remembered as the first aeronautical engineer.

16 de oct. de 2020 · In 1773 George Cayley was born in Scarborough near the family estate in Brampton and he received a privileged education by tutors that included Fellows of the Royal Society, who undoubtedly inspired scientific interests which included flight. By 1799 Cayley’s first new aeronautical concept was engraved on a silver medal.
