Gerry Cott (born 15 October 1954, in Dublin, Ireland) is an Irish guitarist and songwriter, who was a co-founder of the Irish new wave band The Boomtown Rats. He started playing flamenco guitar when he was 11 years old. In 1966 he saw Bob Dylan performing live in Dublin and the experience influenced him radically.
Gerry Cott, co-founder of The Boomtown Rats and virtuoso guitarist releases an album of solo acoustic guitar music. Entitled Urban Soundscapes, the album comprises twelve original guitar pieces and a unique solo guitar arrangement of Eleanor Rigby. Urban Soundscapes is now available on CD and Download.
Biography. Gerry Cott was born in rural County Kildare, Ireland and grew up surrounded by animals and farming. He was eight when his family moved to Sandycove, County Dublin. Getting a Spanish guitar at eleven he took Flamenco lessons from a student from Bilbao living in Dublin.
