Gjilan or Gnjilane (Serbian Cyrillic: Гњилане) is the sixth most populous city in Kosovo and it serves as both a municipality and the administrative center of the Gjilan District. The municipality has a population of 90,178 with approximately 54,239 inhabitants residing in the urban area.

Distrito de Gnjilane es uno de los siete distritos de la provincia serbia de Kosovo. Se localiza al sureste del país. La capital de la provincia es Gnjilane o Gjilani. Está subdividida en tres municipios. El distrito de Gnjilane se llamó Kosovo Pomoravlje y abarcaba cuatro municipios: Gnjilane, Kosovo Kamenica, Vitina y Novo Brdo.

Gjilan is a big town in the East of Kosovo. Serbians do write Gnjilane. The city has around 90.000 inhabitants and is not that far from the capital Pristina. Just like in many other towns of Kosovo, Albanians are the vast ethnical majority. A small percentage has the Serbian ethnicity. Some other minorities are present there too.
