Gonbad-e Kavus (Persian: گنبد کاووس, romanized: Gonbade Kâvus) is a city in the Central District of Gonbad-e Kavus County, Golestan province, Iran, serving as capital of both the county and the district. At the 2006 National Census, its population was 127,167 in 30,710 households.

La torre fue construida en 1006 por orden del ziyárida Amir Shams ol-Ma'āli Qabus ibn Wushmgir (شمس المعالي قابوس بن وشمگير). Está ubicada 3 km al norte de la antigua ciudad de Jorjan, donde reinó la dinastía ziyárida. La torre tiene más de 1000 años de antigüedad.
