Biografi. Imelda Staunton blev født i Archway i London og hendes forældre var irske katolikker der udvandrede til England.Hendes far, Joseph Staunton, var en brudgomarbejder fra Ballyvary, og hendes mor, Bride McNicholas, var en frisør fra Bohola. Fra 11 til 17 år gik hun til La Sainte Union Convent School, en katolsk skole for piger og senere studerede på Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.
