6 de abr. de 2015 · James Best is an American actor, director, and writer. He is best known for his role as Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane in the television series The Dukes of Hazzard. He has appeared in over 200 films and television shows. Best was born in Powderly, Kentucky, on July 26, 1926. He served in the United States Army during World War II.
In the early 1970' Best decided to take a semi-retirement, and became an artist-in-residence at the University of Mississippi. During his two years there, he taught Motion Picture technique and Drama; directed four plays, established the Mississippi Film Commission and was elected to the University's Hall of Fame.

Nachdem seine Mutter im Jahr 1929 an Tuberkulose verstorben war, wurde Best von den Eheleuten Armen und Essa Best aus Corydon in Indiana adoptiert. Nach einem Einsatz im Zweiten Weltkrieg wurde er Schauspieler und arbeitete zunächst wenige Jahre als Theaterschauspieler.
