Janet Gaynor was a leading Hollywood actress during the 1920s and 1930s. She started her career as an extra in silent movies but went on to give some masterful performances in such Silent classics as '7th Heaven' in 1927 and 'Street Angel' the following year.
In 1979, Gaynor was awarded the Order of the Southern Cross for her cultural contributions to Brazil. Personal Life & Legacy. Janet Gaynor was thrice married. Her first marriage to lawyer Jesse Lydell Peck in 1929 was short-lived and ended in divorce in 1933. She married MGM costume designer Adrian in 1939 and had a son with him.
On September 14, 1984, Gaynor died at Desert Hospital in Palm Springs at the age of 77. Her doctor, Bart Apfelbaum, attributed her death to the 1982 car wreck and stated that Gaynor "never recovered" from her injuries. In September 1984, these injuries were officially ruled to have caused her death.
