John Frederick Milius ( / ˈmɪliəs /; born April 11, 1944) is an American screenwriter, film director, and producer. He was a writer for the first two Dirty Harry films, received an Academy Award nomination as screenwriter of Apocalypse Now (1979), and wrote and directed The Wind and the Lion (1975), Conan the Barbarian (1982), and Red Dawn (1984).

John Milius is a screenwriter and director who came to prominence in the 1970s, when he was associated with Francis Ford Coppola and the pre-Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977) George Lucas. He is a gun enthusiast, a member of the National Rifle Association's Board of Directors, and a personal friend of the Coen brothers. He wrote the line "Go ahead, make my day" for Clint Eastwood's "Dirty Harry" character and the "U.S.S. Indianapolis" scene in Jaws (1975).
