Joost van den Vondel (Keulen, 17 november 1587 – Amsterdam, 5 februari 1679) was een Nederlands dichter en toneelschrijver, die algemeen gezien wordt als de grootste schrijver en dichter uit de Nederlandse taal. Hij werd geboren in Keulen en woonde het grootste deel van zijn leven in Amsterdam.
