Giant slalom. Karl Schranz (born 18 November 1938) is a former champion alpine ski racer from Austria, one of the best of the 1960s and early 1970s. Born and raised in St. Anton, Tyrol, Schranz had a lengthy ski career, from 1957 to 1972. He won twenty major downhills, many major giant slalom races and several major slaloms.
Karl Schranz (* 18. November 1938 in St. Anton am Arlberg, Tirol) ist ein ehemaliger österreichischer Skirennläufer. Er zählt zu den erfolgreichsten und bekanntesten Rennläufern und wurde dreimal Weltmeister, gewann zweimal den Gesamtweltcup sowie den Disziplinenweltcup zweimal in der Abfahrt und einmal im Riesenslalom .

Karl Schranz was a four-time Olympic champion in alpine skiing, winning gold in the downhill and the giant slalom in 1964 and 1968, and silver in the slalom in 1960 and 1968. He also won 12 World Cup races and 11 Austrian national titles. He was banned from the 1972 Winter Olympics for professional contracts, but later received honors and awards for his achievements.
