Gyelse Kunga Gyeltsen was the reincarnation of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel's son Jampel Dorje. He lived a short life, as did most of his successive incarnations.
According to legend, Kuenga Gyeltshen witnessed the deity Palden Lhamo performing sacred dances while he was in meditation. Inspired by this divine vision, he initiated the Drubchen ceremony. The heart of Thimphu Drubchen lies in its mesmerizing mask dances, performed by monks and dedicated to Palden Lhamo, the protector deity of Bhutan.

Like most traditions based on the Drukpa Kagyu school of Buddhism, the tradition of Tashigomang is also based on ‘whisper’ (snyan) transmission.
Pagar Goemba was initially established in 1707 by Geshe Kuenga Gyeltshen. It is located about an hour’s walk uphill from Pagar village. A feeder road from a little further down the Chuzom check post toward Chapcha leads to the Pagar village.
