Losang Samten is one of the Mandala Masters who created the first public sand mandala in the West in 1988. He is the spiritual director of several Buddhist Centers in North America, with a home base currently in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – the City of Brotherly Love.

Lobsang Samten Taklha (1933 – 28 September 1985) was a Tibetan politician and one of three elder brothers of the 14th Dalai Lama. In 1978 he helped found and eventually became the director of the Tibetan Medical Institute in Dharamsala, India, where the Dalai Lama still lives in exile.
On November 8, 2007, Khen Rinpoche Geshe Lobsang Samten, Abbot of the Drepung Gomang Monastery and Geshe Jinpa Sonam's teacher, came to the Indiana Buddhist Center (and the home of Geshe Jinpa Sonam la) to bless IBC with his presence and to give two precious teachings: 1oo Deities in the Land of Joy and Cultivating the Mind.
