Entre 1781 y 1789, para poder sobrevivir, Camille Desmoulins compuso poemas y algunas obras teatrales. Dedicó sus poemas a Mme. De La Lande y, sobre todo, a Mme. Duplessis. Consiguió introducirse en la familia Duplessis gracias a sus poemas y así conoció a su futura esposa Lucile.
