El grupo nació en 1984 de la mano de Konishi y Keitarō Takanami, Akira Kamonomiya, Mamiko Sasaki y Shigeo Miyata, este último dejó el grupo casi tan pronto como se integró, pero los demás se quedaron y conservaron el nombre Pizzicato Five. Su primer disco "Audrey Hepburn Complex" salió en 1985 gracias a la CBS Sony.

Pizzicato Five. Pizzicato Five (1985-2001) was a Japanese pop group best known to audiences in the West in their later incarnation as a duo of Maki Nomiya and Yasuharu Konishi. The group was formed in 1985 by Konishi and fellow founding bandmates Keitarō Takanami, Ryō Kamomiya, Mamiko Sasaki, and Shigeo Miyata.
