  6. The Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs was founded in 1924 as the first U.S. school dedicated to civic engagement and preparing students for careers in public service. While officially becoming a graduate school by 1938, Maxwell remained the home for Syracuse University’s undergraduate teaching in the social sciences.
