Short Back 'n' Sides is the fifth studio album by Ian Hunter. He collaborated with Mick Jones, fellow Clash member Topper Headon, as well as Todd Rundgren and Ellen Foley. In 1995, Chrysalis released a 2 CD set with a remastered version of the album and bonus CD with outtakes of the Chrysalis period.

Hunter's first studio album of the 1980s was Short Back 'n' Sides (1981), produced in collaboration with Ronson and Clash guitarist Mick Jones. Ronson's input on Hunter's next album, All of the Good Ones Are Taken (1983), was restricted to playing guitar on a single track.
On this 1981 album, Ian Hunter gives his sound a new wave makeover. This is achieved through the efforts of producer Mick Jones, one of the leading creative forces in the Clash and a longtime disciple of Hunter's work. The end result, Short Back 'n' Sides, occasionally catches fire but fails to work just as often.
Ian Hunter had been revitalized by punk rock, as Short Back and Sides shows. Featuring the Clash 's Mick Jones on guitar, the music is a tougher and spikier take on Hunter's rock & roll, and his songwriting is at a near-peak.
