  4. 9 de nov. de 2020 · Morris Swadesh (1909–1967) was an influential mid-twentieth-century Americanist and linguist, who specialized in language origins and comparative relationships. He is noted for proposing the tool of glottochronology, using lexical statistics to attempt to determine how closely two languages might be related by examining lists of supposedly cross-culturally universal terms.

  5. The Swadesh list was put together by Morris Swadesh on the basis of his intuitions. More recent similar lists, such as the Dolgopolsky list (1964) or the Leipzig–Jakarta list (2009), are based on systematic data from many different languages, but they are not yet as widely known nor as widely used as the Swadesh list.
