Nick Laird is a Northern Irish novelist and poet, born in 1975. He has written four collections of poetry and two novels, Utterly Monkey and Glover's Mistake, both set in Northern Ireland. He met Zadie Smith at Cambridge and married her in 2004. He has also won several awards for his writing, including the Somerset Maugham Award and the Geoffrey Faber Memorial Prize.

Born in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland in 1975, Nick Laird studied at Cambridge University, and worked as a lawyer before becoming a full-time writer. His first book of poems, To a Fault (2005), won several awards, and was hailed by Colm Toibin as “the most auspicious debut in Irish poetry since Paul Muldoon”.
