Oscar Wilder Underwood (May 6, 1862 – January 25, 1929) was an American lawyer and politician from Alabama, and also a candidate for President of the United States in 1912 and 1924.
2 de may. de 2024 · Oscar W. Underwood (born May 6, 1862, Louisville, Ky., U.S.—died Jan. 25, 1929, Fairfax County, Va.) was a U.S. congressman from Alabama (1895–1927) who drafted the Underwood Tariff Act of 1913. After studying law at the University of Virginia he was admitted to the bar in 1884.

Born and raised in Kentucky, Oscar W. Underwood moved to Alabama in 1884 and established a successful law practice. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 1894 and from 1911 to 1915 served as House majority leader and chairman of the Ways and Means Committee.
