Paddy the Next Best Thing 1933 with Janet Gaynor, Warner Baxter and Walter Connolly. This one has Janet Gaynor as Walter Connolly’s spunky Irish daughter, whose older sister (nicely played by Margaret Lindsay) is about to marry Baxter for his money and thus retire Connolly’s debts, though she loves Harvey Stephens, who is in fact infinitely more appealing than Warner Baxter.
Abbie (Madonna) and her friend Robert (Rupert Everett) would make the perfect couple -- except for one small complication: He's gay. Well, at least they don't have to worry about sex messing up their friendship. Or do they? One night, loneliness gets the best of them, and before one can scream "Reality Check," Abbie and Robert become lovers and, ultimately, parents.
