Patrick Henry Pearse was a teacher, writer, poet, and revolutionary who led the Easter Rising in 1916. He was born in Dublin, Ireland, and became a fluent Irish speaker and a leader of the Gaelic League. He founded St. Enda's School for boys and St. Ita's for girls, and joined the Irish Volunteers and the IRB. He was executed by the British after the Rising.
