Sir Peter Hall CBE was an English theatre, opera and film director who founded the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre. He directed the UK premieres of Samuel Beckett, Tennessee Williams and Harold Pinter, and championed public funding for the arts. He died in 2017 at the age of 86.
